Shoots and Ladders
During the weekly swap from one parent’s house to the other, 9-year-old Kyla becomes acutely aware, with the aid of a mysterious masked man, of the problems adults face while annoyingly simultaneously facing her increasing need to go pee.
Shoots And Ladders is nothing short of FUN.
Between set and the story itself, we got to blend the worlds of reality and imaginary to show the youthful perspective that kids have of the world. Stories about kids can have an eye-opening factor for the audience because of their creativity and highly observational nature. I adore stories like these because of how much joy can be created in a hard situation. Our main actress Marlee was able to help us expand on the story because of her own eagerness to bring Kyla to life.
Throughout the shoot, more and more stickers were found all over binders, t-shirts and hats. During breaks, I found the team playing on the playground and eating popsicles. It was a party — and the days all ended on time I might add.
